Celebrating the Civil War Sesquicentennial

Back down memory lane... Eleven years ago, as associate director of the Center for the Study of the Civil War Era at Kennesaw State University, I was elated to celebrate the Civil War Sesquicentennial at Stone Mountain Park with the former Gov. Nathan Deal and the living history reenactors of the 54th Massachusetts Colored Infantry, Co. I.

This was the time period in which I transitioned my work to championing the life of Susie King Taylor and the United States Colored Troops.

It followed my acclaimed research for the National Park Service (KEMO), "The War of Jubilee: Tell Our Story and We Will Come."
